Would you like to know how to make your home more energy efficient?

Rising energy costs are a worry but a competition is now open for four households in North Somerset to win a free retrofit survey – worth £600 each – for their home.

Retrofitting means carrying out work to improve an existing building by reducing energy and water consumption or upgrading construction materials.

Improving your home in this way is one of the most important contributions you can make towards reaching both local and national net zero emission climate targets.

The competition is being run by Bristol-based charity Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE), through its Futureproof service.

Each winner will receive a visit from a skilled retrofit assessor who will create a bespoke plan detailing work needed, as well as advice and guidance on how and where to start.

Go to the Futureproof website to enter and complete the short form by Saturday 30 April.

The competition is open to anyone living in North Somerset and winners will be selected at random.

The team from CSE will also be out and about at events across North Somerset this month to offer advice about home retrofit, saving energy and cutting bills.

Look out for them at Nailsea farmers’ market on Saturday (16 April), and Portishead library on Friday 22 April.

This retrofit competition is part of a wider programme called Enabling Thriving Places, being delivered by CSE on our behalf.

It’s funded by the UK Community Renewal Fund which aims to decarbonise local schools, leisure centres and public buildings in the area.

In total we, and other local organisations, received more than £2.8m of government funding from the UK Community Renewal Fund. Read more about it on our website.
