Could you spare some time to help run two special projects in our local libraries this year?

Volunteering is a great thing to do whatever your reasons – job hunters could do it as a chance to develop their CV, while it can also help boost mental health in a post-pandemic world and help you get more involved in your local community.

The two projects we need help running are the popular annual Summer Reading Challenge and the Memories Shared Project.

The Summer Reading Challenge encourages children aged four and over to read six books during the school summer holidays.

For every book they read, tokens are collected and, if they complete the challenge, they’ll receive rewards and be entered into a prize draw.

We need volunteers aged 14 and over who can talk to children about the books they’ve read and hand out rewards.

Flexible sessions are available at libraries across North Somerset, from Saturday 9 July to Saturday 10 September.

The closing date for applications is Monday 13 June.

The Memories Shared Project will deliver reminiscence and local history sessions in Weston-super-Mare.

It runs throughout this year and into next and we’re looking for volunteers aged 18 and over. The deadline to apply is Friday 1 July.

If you’re interested in either of these projects, we would love to hear from you.

No previous experience of volunteering or working in a library is needed and full training and support will be given.
