Sign up to pay your council tax by direct debit and – if eligible – you’ll automatically receive a £150 rebate directly into your account.

The cost of living continues to increase and has been made more difficult with the rise in energy bills.

Earlier this year the government announced that households living in council tax bands A to D would receive a one-off £150 rebate on their council tax bills for the new financial year.

Eligible households who pay council tax by direct debit will see £150 go directly into their bank accounts from April.

This is the quickest and easiest way to get the money so now is a good time to sign up to direct debit if you don’t already.

Those who don't pay by direct debit will be contacted by us and invited to make a claim.

In North Somerset there are 76,656 homes in council tax bands A to D, about three-quarters of local homes, making a total of £11.5m available.

Direct debit payments can be set up through MyAccount on the council website.

There is also advice on our website about council tax support if you’re struggling to pay your bills.

Rising costs may be worrying but other support is available. Find out about housing benefit and universal credit on our dedicated webpage.

Financial help may also be available if you’re struggling to pay your energy or water bills. Visit the Centre for Sustainable Energy for advice.

Citizens Advice also gives independent advice on employment, debt, benefits and more.

From next week we’ll also be publishing hints and tips about reducing your energy usage on our Facebook and Twitter accounts, so keep a look out and please share.
