The friendly, relaxed group has been set up by award-winning suicide bereavement charity Pete’s Dragons.
It aims to help in a small number of meaningful ways, to help families, partners and friends adapt to the world without their loved one.
The peer-to-peer group is a supportive, kind and safe space for those who have been affected by suicide to speak to others with similar experiences, and find connection and understanding.
Pete’s Dragons began in Devon providing specialist support to people who have been impacted by suicide, as well as training in all aspects of mental wellbeing.
One participant from Devon, Karen, said; “Everyone knows that we have all been bereaved by suicide. We might talk about the person we have lost, we might not.
“The group is very supportive of each other. The main feeling is one of great kindness and understanding.
“I would encourage anybody who has been bereaved by suicide to simply try attending a peer support group. Don’t put any great expectations on yourself. Just try it and see how it feels for you.”
The group meets in Weston-super-Mare on the first Tuesday evening of each month. You can find out more by calling 01395 277 780 or email support@petesdragons.org.uk
