Do you have any memories of Her Majesty The Queen visiting North Somerset that you’d like to share?

The Queen visited our area several times during her 70-year reign, including in 1977 during her silver jubilee year and most recently in 2007.

If you have any photographs from these visits, we’d love to see them.

During the 2007 visit on 20 July that year, Her Majesty was accompanied by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh and they visited a number of locations in North Somerset throughout the day.

The Royal couple began their day at Yatton railway station where they were greeted by civic dignitaries and local schoolchildren from the village.

In the morning they also visited Yeo Valley in Blagdon, the For All Healthy Living Centre and Knightstone Island in Weston. At the island Her Majesty and the Duke unveiled a plaque to mark the refurbishment of Coronation Promenade – which originally commemorated The Queen’s coronation in 1953.

After a lunch at the Winter Gardens, The Queen visited Ashcombe Children’s Centre in Weston while Prince Philip enjoyed a tour of the Helicopter Museum at Locking.

Our North Somerset studies library is collecting photos, letters or any memories you have of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for its archive.
