Launched in April 2023, WESTlink is part of a UK government funded trial under the Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP). Unlike a traditional bus, WESTlink has no fixed routes or timetables - you simply book your journey, and a shared vehicle collects you. Services run from 7am to 7pm, Monday to Saturday, and the trial continues until March 2026, when results will help shape the future of local transport.

What’s new this month?
In September, every household in North Somerset will receive a local travel guide with bus routes, Town Zone hub locations and step-by-step info on how to use WESTlink.
To make travel even easier, WESTlink is introducing Town Zones, extended coverage and better connections:
Town Zones for local trips.
- Clevedon, Portishead, Nailsea and Backwell will each get their own smaller Town Zone. This is perfect for quick journeys around town - whether it’s the school run, shopping, or meeting friends.
Hub stops for longer journeys.
- For trips further afield, WESTlink will take you to a hub stop, where you can change onto buses or trains. If no direct service exists, WESTlink connects you to a nearby zone - for example, Portishead passengers can now link to Bristol Airport.
Rural connections stay strong.
- Rural residents can still travel freely within their zone, while also linking to towns and hub stops.
Expanded coverage.
- Long Ashton is now included, making it easier to reach scheduled bus routes.
- The Weston-super-Mare Zone is extended to cover Waterloo Street in the town centre and Uphill.
- The Airport Zone now includes Barrow Gurney, opening up more connections across North Somerset.
