Time to apply for school places

If your child was born between 1 September 2021 and 31 August 2022 they will be due to start reception year in September 2026.   

There are many factors to take into consideration when choosing the right school, so take the opportunity to visit during school open days.   

If your child has recently entered year 2 at an infant school, year 4 at a first school, year 6 at a primary school or year 8 at a middle school, you must also soon make an application for them to transfer to the next phase.   

Applications can be made on our website from today (Friday 12 September 2025).

The deadline to apply for a secondary school place from year 7, transferring from middle to upper school, or transferring to a University Technical School (UTC) or free school is 11.59pm on Friday 31 October 2025.   

The deadline to apply for those starting school in reception for the first time, transferring from infant to junior school, or transferring from first to middle school is 11.59pm on Thursday 15 January 2026.   

You can name up to three preferences and apply for schools both within and outside North Somerset.
