Health experts are worried about a bad flu season and rising covid rates as we head into winter so please book your vaccinations when you’re eligible.

We’re now more used to living with coronavirus but the best way to protect yourself remains to get vaccinated.

Cases are increasing across the south west and hospitals are expecting to see more covid patients this winter.

Vaccinations can help prevent infections and reduce the chance of you becoming seriously ill.

Getting the flu jab is also more important than ever this year because of low levels of immunity in the community due to the covid lockdowns of the last two years.

If you’re entitled to a free flu jab, please book it as soon as you can.

Find details of vaccination clinics in North Somerset on the Grab a Jab website.

The NHS offers treatments to people who are at the highest risk of becoming seriously ill with covid.

These treatments can help people manage their symptoms and further reduce the risk of becoming seriously ill.

You may be at the highest risk if you have certain types of cancer, sickle cell disease, had an organ transplant, HIV or AIDS, certain conditions affecting your blood, or more.

Your doctor or specialist can confirm if you are eligible for treatment.

If you are eligible, make sure you have some rapid lateral flow tests at home to test yourself quickly if you start getting symptoms.

Order them for free from the government website.

If you are eligible for treatment, and then test positive, please report your result following the instructions in your kit.

You should include your telephone number when reporting your result. The NHS will then call you to give you more information about treatments and ask questions to check if treatment is right for you.

Treatments are free of charge on the NHS and it will never ask for your bank account or card details, or to pay for treatment.
