The essential upgrades to the A370 are to ensure the road continues to serve motorists safely and efficiently for years to come.
The programme includes a mix of resurfacing, patching and preventative maintenance across several stretches.
A370 Somerset Avenue (West Wick Roundabout to Hutton Moor Roundabout) including the Airport Roundabout:
- Extensive carriageway patching on Somerset Avenue and Flowerdown Bridge
- Full resurfacing of the Airport Roundabout and all entry and exit roads.
During these road closures, crews will also:
- Cut back overgrown vegetation on verges and central reservations
- Conduct litter picking along the verges
- Apply joint sealant to treat cracks and prevent future deterioration
- Empty roadside drainage gullies to improve water run-off.
The work will be carried out using overnight road closures between Monday 20 October and Friday 1 November. These will be in place 8pm to 6am on Monday to Friday.
A370 Herluin Way (Winterstoke Roundabout to Hutton Moor Roundabout):
- Extensive patching on the dual carriageway
- Traffic signal upgrading
- Joint sealing works to prevent further deterioration
- Tree coppicing near the Hutton Moor Road junction
- Replacement of high-friction surfacing at pedestrian crossings near Carbase and the Hutton Moor junction—enhancing grip and improving safety, especially in wet conditions
- Vegetation clearance, litter picking, and gully emptying.
The work will be carried out using overnight road closures between 8pm and 6am.
These will be in place westbound (inbound) between Monday 3 November and Friday 7 November and eastbound (outbound) between Monday 10 November and Friday 15 November.
Traffic marshalls will be on hand to help with access arrangements and a clear diversion route will be in place.
These works represent a significant investment in the town’s road infrastructure—helping to keep Weston’s transport network safe, efficient and well-maintained.
While temporary disruption is unavoidable, every effort is being made to minimise inconvenience, and the improvements will soon provide long-lasting benefits for all who travel on this vital route.
