More than £1.7m has been secured to enable more than 100 homes to be built on vacant brownfield land in Weston-super-Mare.

We’ve secured the money for Dophin Square, in the town centre, through the government’s Brownfield Land Release Fund (BLRF).

The money has been awarded as part of the government’s plans to get the country building, create jobs and grow the economy, as part of a multi-million-pound funding boost for councils to unlock disused brownfield sites.

The majority of homes at Dolphin Square will be affordable homes.

This will support the SuperWeston placemaking strategy, which emphasises the need for new, good quality housing to attract people to the town to live and work.

This BLRF2.3 funding will cover upfront groundworks and sub-structure works.

Proposals for delivery are moving forward with Aequus Construction, a development company owned by Bath and North East Somerset Council.A planning application is expected later this year with work starting on site in 2025.

Dolphin Square is an exciting project for us, demonstrating our commitment to mixed tenure development by offering a majority affordable homes.

We want to ensure our communities are vibrant and diverse, with good access to jobs, transport, education and other facilities.
