Lots of family-friendly events are taking place across North Somerset next week for everyone to enjoy.

Halloween is on the horizon but if high prices are still scaring you, there are lots of ways to have free or low-cost fun during the school holiday.

Here are some highlights of activities taking place next week:

  • Follow a Halloween trail around the National Trust’s Tyntesfield estate, in Wraxall, and record the missing ingredients needed by Gertrude the witch. The trail starts tomorrow (Saturday) and runs until Sunday 3 November. Free trail, but normal admission charges apply.
  • Enjoy a family friendly adventure filled with pumpkins at Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm in Wraxall, during this year’s Pumpkinfest. Take part in scavenger hunts during the school holidays next week and take advantage of 20 per cent off day tickets bought online until Saturday 30 November.
  • Explore Nailsea’s High Street and find carved pumpkins hiding along the way, during the Pumpkin Hunt on Monday (28 October). Collect a free pumpkin trail map from the town council offices, at 65 High Street, and explore the street from 9am to 4pm. Children in fancy dress get a special prize.
  • Follow a spooky Halloween Trail and have fang-tastic fun on Sand Bay beach. Sand Bay Fish and Chips and Cosy Café are hosting the trail from Monday (28 October) to Thursday (31 October). Spooky clues will be around the village and beach, with prizes up for grabs. Fun activities and Halloween treats will also be on offer in the chippy and café, in Crookes Lane.
  • Children can pretend to be a real Palaeontologist as they dig for their own fossils during a Dino Dig next week. Sessions take place on Wednesday (30 October) and Thursday (31 October), at Weston Museum, in Burlington Street. These sessions are mostly suitable for younger children and their grown-ups. Tickets available online.
  • Weston-super-Mare RNLI will help everyone feel festive during a drop-in Christmas decorations family craft workshop, from noon-2pm on Saturday 2 November, at the RNLI shop at Marine Lake in Weston. Supplies donated by the Community Scrapstore. Donations welcome.
  • There’s still time to see the artwork of illustrator Axel Scheffler, best known for his partnership with author Julia Donaldson and creating much-loved characters like the Gruffalo and Stick Man. The exhibition of his work is at Weston Museum, in Burlington Street, Weston-super-Mare, until Saturday 9 November.
  • It’s also the perfect time of year to get outdoors and enjoy nature’s autumn treat of golden leaves. Visit one of North Somerset’s beautiful parks or open spaces, or join an organised health walk to explore your local area.
