Organised displays are the best way to enjoy fireworks safely.

Here’s a round-up of some events happening in North Somerset. Keep your eye out for any more publicised in your local area nearer the time.

Saturday 28 October

Friday 3 November

  • Portishead Football Club, Bristol Road, Portishead. Gates open 5.30pm, fireworks to music at 7pm. Includes BBQ and bar.
  • Grand Pier Fireworks at Sea. From 6.30pm

Saturday 4 November

Sunday 5 November

  • Hutton, Springwood playing fields, Hutton. With mini funfair. From 5.15pm

Saturday 11 November

  • Puxton Park, Hewish. From 5.30pm with display from 7pm. Includes park admission.

Friday 17 November

  • ‘Quiet fireworks’ at Baytree School, Highlands Lane, Weston-super-Mare. Gates open at 6pm, display from 7pm.  Payment for tickets must be made by Friday 10 November to regulate numbers.

Other upcoming events:

  • The world-famous Oktoberfest is coming to Weston this weekend. Sample authentic German bier, bands and Bratwurst tonight (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday), at the Tropicana in Weston-super-Mare. Other drinks are available, including cider, Prosecco, wine and spirits. Live music will come from Oompah bands. Buy tickets online or find out more on the event website. Strictly for those aged 18 and over.
  • Get ready for a spine-tingling evening of thrilling entertainment and bingo madnass! Popular Bingo Lingo returns to the Tropicana, in Weston-super-Mare, on Saturday 28 October.
  • American blues harmonica player, singer and songwriter Johnny Mars is appearing at Nailsea Folk Club on Saturday 28 October as part of Black History Month. As well as being a great musician, he’s an entertaining and engaging narrator, and will be exploring the history of the blues and the experiences and struggle of black people in America.
  • Get your skates on – Icescape is back at the Tropicana, in Weston-super-Mare. Professional skaters from Team GB, including a multiple British Champion skating star, will perform some spectacular routines on the ice during the opening event, from 6pm on Tuesday 7 November. Following the display, there will be two public skate sessions at 7pm and 8pm. Entry to the venue is free but if you want to skate, book your tickets in advance to avoid missing out. The ice rink is then open until Sunday 7 January. The spectacular festive destination includes food and drink stalls, amusement rides and more. There is space for 400 skaters in each 45-minute session on ice, with sessions throughout the day. Themed sessions include parent and toddler, quiet ones, skate and donate for charity, and disco ones.
