Befrienders of all ages are needed to volunteer their time and help keep someone company.

More and more people are experiencing loneliness and don’t have large social connections.

We can all be lonely at some point in our lives and this can have profound and wide-ranging impacts.

While loneliness is an emotional experience, isolation is a lack of social contact.

Feeling lonely is not necessarily the same thing as being alone, as some people can spend lots of their time on their own and still feel content.

Others may be surrounded by people but feel disconnected from them.

To help combat this, Voluntary Action North Somerset (VANS) is looking to recruit 100 more befrienders across North Somerset over the next couple of months.

If you’re friendly, reliable, and happy to give up some of your spare time to help someone, then the charity wants to hear from you.

Being a befriender doesn’t have to be face-to-face, as telephone befriender opportunities are available.

Full training and expenses are provided.
