More play areas across North Somerset are set to be improved this year.

Since last year, we’ve been carrying out improvements at 30 play areas across the area, making them more accessible for all children and young people.

This includes seven play areas we own, using money from our capital budget, and 23 others looked after by town and parish councils or community groups, thanks to our Play Area Improvement Fund matched funding scheme.

In total, we manage more than 50 playgrounds across North Somerset. Find them all on our website.

We’re now planning to improve four more thanks to a capital investment of £260,000 committed from the 2023/24 budget.

The locations, chosen based on need, are:

  • Clevedon – Salthouse Fields
  • Nailsea – Trendlewood
  • Portishead – The Vale
  • Weston-super-Mare – The Park (near Winterstoke Road).

Improvements will include repairing or replacing safety surfacing, replacing broken equipment and/or installing new equipment, repainting existing equipment, and repairing fencing where needed.

We’re currently consulting on the Salthouse Fields play area to find out what local people think the priorities should be.

This particular play area will receive £150,000 of investment. We’re looking to install a range of play equipment to appeal to all age ranges and abilities, including those children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).

We want to make sure that our money is invested in a way that brings the most benefit to local children and young people.

If you use Salthouse Fields play area, please have your say about our proposals on our website by noon on Wednesday 1 November.

All projects will be finished by the end of March next year.
