We’re urging the government to break away from years of cuts to council budgets and instead find solutions that will help us rise to the challenge of our current financial emergency.
Sign our petition and pledge your support for a fairer deal for North Somerset.
We’re already working urgently to balance our budget for this financial year and have identified millions in savings and increased income.
We’ve done this by:
- releasing contingency funding earlier than ever before
- reviewing our recruitment and freezing some vacancies
- Implementing strict spending controls
- maximising our income
- reviewing our assets
- considering all savings options, including reviewing our workforce.
We still need to find another £8m in savings and increased income by the end of March, though.
And this year isn’t a one-off. Our forecasts show continued increasing costs and demand have already increased our budget gap over the next three years.
Our petition is calling for a fairer deal, so we can protect services and continue to deliver for our communities, helping to keep North Somerset a great place to live, work and visit.
We’ll send the petition to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government in December.
After pledging some extra funding to councils in the recent budget, we know the government is listening and recognises the financial emergency so many councils are facing.
