Unlimited free bus travel across North Somerset and the West of England is now available to young people who have experienced being in care.

WESTfares bus passes were unveiled during national Care Leavers Week and are available for all care experienced young people aged 18 to 21 until the end of March 2025 or until they turn 22 (whichever is first).

The pass will make it easier to travel across the region and support independence, helping young people get to work, appointments, or to socialise, while also getting into the habit of using the bus.

Free travel removes one of the barriers to independence and will help to keep costs down as cost-of-living pressures continue.

All the main bus companies, including First and Stagecoach, have signed up to the initiative, as well as WESTlink on-demand buses.

As a corporate parent, we’re committed to helping young care experienced people to make use of available local services.

We also host a monthly forum for all care experienced young people to discuss their thoughts, and also provide a care leavers job club to help those looking for work.

Have you applied for your birthday bus pass?

Free bus travel across the area is also available to all North Somerset residents during the month of your birthday.

We’re working with the West of England Combined Authority to encourage everyone to ‘walk or wheel’ where possible, helping reach our carbon neutral goal by 2030.

When that’s not possible, we want bus travel to be the first choice over car usage, which will help ease traffic congestion and create a greener way to travel.
