Sales frenzy is now mounting as retailers gear up for Black Friday next week – but could you have a more ethical Green Friday instead?

Green Friday is about stepping back from the avalanche of consumerism and making sustainable shopping choices instead.

Typical households in the UK spend an extra £700 preparing for Christmas but there are many ways to have a more meaningful Christmas which is better for the planet as well as your purse.

Could you visit a local market, buy second-hand, or get crafty and upcycle a piece of furniture?

Support Small Business Saturday

Choosing local independent businesses keeps money circulating within the local economy and jobs in our communities, while being better for the environment as it cuts transport emissions.

Small Business Saturday on Saturday 2 December aims to encourage everyone to celebrate and support these local traders.

This is a difficult time for businesses, especially small businesses, as shoppers cut back because of rising prices and forecasts of recession.

As you start planning your Christmas shopping trips over the coming weeks, could you choose our local businesses rather than the internet giants?
