More ways to enjoy summer

There are more ways to get the most out of summer before the children head back to school next month.

  • A new sporting event is kicking off on Weston-super-Mare’s beach today (Friday) until Sunday. Weston Beach Rugby Fest is a tag rugby tournament with teams for men, women and children.
  • Pick up a tasty treat at eat:Portishead tomorrow (Saturday). More than 80 regional food and drink producers will be selling their wares from 10am-4pm around the Marina.
  • Enjoy live comedy and music at the Tropicana in Weston-super-Mare this summer. Before attending any event there, you’ll be asked to show proof of your COVID vaccine passport via the NHS app or a negative lateral flow test (taken 24 hours before). Vaccine cards will not be accepted.

The line-up at the Tropicana includes:

  • Bingo Lingo brings nonsense and weirdness to the stage tomorrow (Saturday). Tickets £10 plus booking fee, from Fatsoma
  • Get your dancing shoes on and celebrate the music of Abba with Take A Chance On Us ABBA Tribute on Friday 20 August. The show features a live six-piece band, voiceovers, costume changes, choreographed dance routines and a light show. Tickets cost £15 plus booking fee from Ticketsource
  • Re-live your rave days and throw some shapes with the family. Rave-Kidz is a family rave event, playing the finest in uplifting dance and rave music for all ages. Embrace the energy from 4-7pm on Thursday 26 August. Tickets from £10 + booking fee from Skiddle
  • Hear the best dance floor fillers, Britpop bangers and hip-hop classics during a celebration of everything 90s, during a night of 90s Anthems on Friday 27 August. Tickets cost £10 plus booking fee from Eventbrite
  • See fabulous sci-fi displays, watch a wonderful cosplay parade, see cars from the movies and more at the Stars of Time Film and Comic Con, on Sunday 29 and Monday 30 August. Tickets from Stars of Time
  • Find unique gifts or tempting treats at Clevedon Sunday Market, which runs on the first Sunday of every month from May until December. The next one is 10am-2pm on Sunday 5 September with a variety of local producers selling their wares.
