Proposals to develop year-round facilities at Weston-super-Mare’s Marine Lake have moved forward.

A planning application was submitted last week for proposals to develop the family-friendly venue as a safe place for all ages to enjoy.

The application was submitted on our behalf by We Made That, our appointed architecture practice for the project.

Proposed designs have been shaped by local people, community groups and organisations during engagement work led by We Made That in collaboration with Super Culture.

Involving the local community remains one of our key priorities and we continue to be grateful to the Weston Marine Lake Mudlarks, a group of volunteers who help manage the lake.

Proposals include installing a new welcome sign at the entrance; utilising and repurposing under-used space to create a new concession, equipment hire and storage facility; upgrading and increasing the number of public toilets, including one accessible toilet; installing cycle racks; improving access for people into the water; repairing and resurfacing the lower walkway around the lake; and repairing the Madeira Gardens pavilion roof.

This project is part of our ambitious placemaking vision for the town, made possible thanks to our successful bid for £20m from the UK government.

Find the planning application on our website, using reference 25/P/0855/R3.

If approved, work is due to be completed by March 2026.
