The works, which began in mid-February, follow extensive consultation with local businesses, councillors and residents.
Thank you for all your patience during this time. We hope these updates make the seafront more accessible, safer, and enjoyable for everyone.
The final changes include:
• re-introducing sea facing parking
• retaining the one-way system with a contraflow cycle lane
• removing the two-way cycle path and wavy line
• installing loading bays and a coach drop-off point
• adjusting the roundabout to provide a standard mini roundabout
• improved pedestrian crossing points
• introducing vehicle access to the Promenade for boats and ice cream van
• repositioning planters
• improving lineage and signage to support the one-way system.
We’ve listened to the local community and reinstated the sea facing parking, replaced the two-way cycle path with a single contraflow cycle path and adjusted the roundabout to a traditional layout, which has been enabled by changing the position of the cycle lane.
We worked with businesses and residents along the seafront to minimise disruption during the works but appreciate that the changes to the scheme may have caused some difficulties.
Our priority was to complete the work ahead of the May school holiday and before the summer season, which we’ve achieved.
The £425,000 changes have been met from a variety of funding streams. including council reserves, Section 106 money from developers, Local Transport Plan funding and residual funding from the allocation towards the Great Lakes project in Clevedon.
