Find out about all the fun family events happening over the next few weeks...

  • Discover the history of the RNLI on Birnbeck Pier and help celebrate the charity’s 200th anniversary during a free exhibition throughout May. The RNLI exhibition is now on at Weston Library, in the Town Hall, Walliscote Grove Road, to mark Local and Community History Month. See large-scale images selected from the Local Studies Archive. The exhibition is open during usual library opening hours.
  • Fitness enthusiasts will be testing their skills tomorrow (Saturday) during a new outdoor race on Weston-super-Mare’s beach. X Race will see competitors battling five functional fitness zones packed with unconventional equipment across three distances. Free to spectate. 
  • Popular Sea Shanty bands will be performing their unique songs in Portishead’s marina. Hear the Beach’D Buoys, Barnacle Buoys, Severn Whalers and more at Portishead Shanty Festival, hosted by Hall and Woodhouse, in Newfoundland Way, from 11am to 8pm on Saturday 25 May.
  • Classic vehicles and vintage transport will be on show in Weston-super-Mare during the Pageant of Transport. Visit the Beach Lawns on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 May.
  • Pop-up indoor skatepark Transcend returns to the Campus, in Highlands Lane, Weston-super-Mare, during the school holidays. Daily lessons each day, from Tuesday 28 May to Saturday 1 June, for ages 6 and over.
  • Pride will be celebrating in Weston-super-Mare throughout June with a series of events, activities, exhibitions and performances for all ages across multiple venues. Beautifully Proud, put together by a partnership of different local organisations and businesses, will shine a light on what Weston has to offer the community year-round and showcase the support available.   • Enjoy a day of family fun and celebrate the community at WorleFest on Saturday 1 June. See dazzling circus skills, meet Disney princesses, take part in dance sessions, hear live music and more, from 10am to 6pm at @Worle sports centre, in New Bristol Road, Weston-super-Mare.   • Words will come alive at Clevedon Literary Summer Festival, taking place at various venues around the town from Wednesday 5 to Sunday 9 June. Discover music, art, spoken word, film and photography during a mix of ticketed and un-ticketed events. See the full programme on the website.
  • Pick up perfect gift at Portishead's Craft Fair on Saturday 8 June. Find handmade items and enjoy some refreshments. Children can also learn about dragons, snakes and tortoises and get up to close to some creatures during a reptile encounter (£5 per child). From 10am to 3pm at Somerset Hall.
  • Hear Weston’s wartime story during a special evening to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Big screen illustrations will bring to life the years of the Second World War, during Weston at War, on Thursday 13 June at the Blakehay Theatre in Weston-super-Mare. Tickets cost £10.
  • Enjoy an afternoon of fun, music, games, drinks at Yatton Schools Summer Carnival, on Saturday 15 June at Hangstones Pavillion. The afternoon starts with a procession through the village from 2.30pm, followed by fun in the field, with stalls and entertainment.
