Businesses, community interest groups and charities looking to improve their energy efficiency, save costs and reduce their carbon footprints can now apply for funding to help them achieve this.

Our Net Zero Business Grants programme, funded through the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), offers capital grants of up to £30,000 to eligible small and medium-sized businesses, community interest companies and charities within North Somerset.

The money can be used to pay for a range of energy-saving measures, which in turn will reduce energy bills and play a key role in helping businesses with long-term cost savings.

Since last April six organisations have benefitted from this funding, including the not-for-profit Strawberry Line Café and Cycle Project which provides vocational opportunities to young people with learning disabilities.

They used the funding to replace their electric hob with an induction hob to reduce electricity usage and associated emissions.

In other organisations, funding has been used to install LED lighting, solar panels, air source heat pumps, mechanical ventilation and insulation.

We’re also offering match funding of up to 70 per cent, depending on the size of the business, location and type of project.

To start the process off, you must first undertake a carbon survey.

Results from the survey will show quantified saving recommendations and quotes for proposed energy efficiency works.

Download an application form from the website and email it to climate.emergency@n-somerset.gov.uk by noon on Sunday 30 June.

Reducing your carbon footprint and helping to tackle the climate emergency will also help improve overall health and wellbeing, create community resilience, and reduce financial impacts.
