Thankfully emergencies are rare but we need to be prepared for if they do happen.
As part of this, we need to make sure there are enough buildings across North Somerset that could be used as rest centres if people need to be evacuated from their homes.
As a minimum, buildings need to be warm and dry with electricity and lighting, have a seating area, kitchen facilities and toilets.
It could be a village hall, community centre, sports venue or religious establishment, and it’s important to have a mix of venues to provide true resilience for all local communities.
Venue owners and managers are being asked to consider if their building would be suitable during times of crisis and to sign up to our Community Emergency Shelter Scheme.
