If English isn’t your first language, or you’d like to learn a new language for business, travel, self-development or just for fun, this web-based service could be the perfect way to learn at a time and place that suits you.
Learning another language offers huge benefits at any age, such as improving cognition, creativity and communication skills.
It opens up opportunities to understand other cultures, boosts confidence and self-esteem, and it could make travelling overseas a much richer experience.
Our subscription to Transparent Language has been funded by our refugee resettlement team, who are already using it to encourage the people they work with to join the library service and improve their spoken and written English skills.
Providing resources like this is part of our aim to reduce inequalities, promote fairness and opportunity for everyone.
It comes at a time when we’re stepping up the measures available locally for everyone involved in the Homes for Ukraine scheme.
We have increased monthly payments from £350 a month to £550 to help with the rising costs of living.
Weekly drop-in sessions for Ukrainian guests, host families and anyone wanting more information about the scheme also now take place on Wednesdays from 10am to 1pm at the We Are Super studios, in The Sovereign, Weston-super-Mare.
Free access to Transparent Language is only available to our library members but joining is free, either on the LibrariesWest website or pop into your local library.
Courses can be accessed through a desktop version or the free Transparent Language (Online) app, available through the Apple App Store or Google Play.
Find out more and sign in on the North Somerset Council website. You can also find more information about the benefits of library membership, including a range of free activities and events.
