Spring-themed school holiday events

Schools will soon be on their Easter break so lots of spring-themed events are planned over the coming weeks.

Music, comedy and more will also keep the grown-ups entertained.

  • If you need ideas of what to do at weekend as a family, free ParkPlay sessions could be the perfect answer. ParkPlay utilises the power of play to build happier, healthier communities every Saturday morning. Have fun taking part in a variety of games and activities in a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment. Visit Castle Batch Green Space, Worle, from 9.30am to11am, and Merlin Park, Portishead, from 10am to 11.30am every Saturday. We’re looking to expand ParkPlay into different areas.   • Easter-themed events are springing up at Mendip Activity Centre, in Churchill, over the coming weeks. Complete different activities to win sweet treats, including an Easter egg hunt, or search for dragon eggs underground!
  • Talented gardening enthusiasts, bakers and artists will showcase and sell their flowers, fruit, vegetables, cakes and crafts at Portishead Spring Show on Saturday (15 March), from 12.30pm-4.30pm at the Folk Hall, in the High Street. Entry £1, or free for children and members of Portishead Horticultural Society.
  • Discover ways to be more sustainable during the Green Shift Festival in Clevedon. The festival, from Thursday 20 to Sunday 23 March, features events at various locations in Clevedon and includes music, a fair, workshops, poetry and more.
  • See a spooky film outdoors by candlelight. Sprout Café, in Grove Park, Weston-super-Mare, is hosting Swedish folk horror classic ‘Let the Right One In’ from 7pm on Friday 21 March. Tickets £10 for entry and supper. Blankets available but people are encouraged to dress warmly. Hot drinks and cakes will be on sale at the café. 
  • Nailsea is turning pink during a comedy night to help raise money for Cancer Research UK, at Chapel Barton, in Nailsea, on Saturday 22 March. Tootsie Trotter will be live on stage with her Comedy Cabaret Show.
    £10 per ticket. Over 18s only.
  • Model rail enthusiasts can see a range of layouts covering many scales, regions and eras at Nailsea Model Rail Exhibition, on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 March. Tickets £8 for adults, £2 for children or £18 for a family of four.
  • Enjoy a night of live music when popular local act the Lipinski Band appears at the Grand Atlantic Hotel, in Beach Road, Weston-super-Mare, on Saturday 29 March.   • Celebrate all things spring during a Family Fun Day, from 10am to 11.30am on Saturday 5 April. Play Wild is hosting its next event at Wood Lane Quarry, near the junction of Manor Road and Bristol Road Lower in Weston-super-Mare. Enjoy activities to help understand nature using natural materials, including a mud kitchen, scavenger hunts, natural crafts and marshmallows toasted on the fire. Sessions are suitable for walking toddlers to teens. Booking essential. Tickets £8 for under 3s and £12 for over 3s.
  • Learn about, meet and hold fascinating reptiles during a fun-filled day in Portishead, from 10am to 3pm on Saturday 5 April. The Reptile Encounter Day, at Somerset Hall in the High Street, is perfect for all ages.
  • Help find lost dinosaur eggs on the Grand Pier in Weston-super-Mare every day during the Easter school holidays. The Easter Dinosaur Egg Hunt runs every day from Saturday 5 to Monday 21 April. Meet the Easter bunny, free face painting and more.
  • A mega Easter crafts session is open for all ages on Monday 7 April. Make Easter themed slime, a sun catcher, paper egg wreath or Easter bunny decoration, at the Art in Mind studio, in St Georges, Weston-super-Mare. Tickets £15 from Ticketsource.
  • More than 100 local producers will be at the free eat:Weston food and drink festival, from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 12 April, in the Italian Gardens, Weston-super-Mare.
  • Popular paddle steamer The Waverley will be docking in North Somerset this June. The summer timetable includes stops in Clevedon, Portishead and Weston-super-Mare. View and buy tickets on The Waverley website.
