Celebrations will take place across the country this May to mark 80 years since Victory in Europe (VE) Day.

Four days of national events have been announced to celebrate 80 years since the Allied victory in Europe and we’d love to see lots of communities coming together across North Somerset.

The Early May bank holiday, on Monday 5 May, is being dedicated to nationwide community celebrations – so could you host a street party, BBQ or get-together with your neighbours?

If you’re considering a street party, you’ll need to plan early but we’ve made the process as easy as possible.

There’s guidance on how to plan for your street party and an application form on our website.

Some safety and legal considerations need to be in place so please apply by Sunday 23 March to give us enough time to arrange the closure.

There’s no cost to apply to close your road for a street party

If a street party is impractical, community events such as a ‘picnic in the park’ could be arranged instead.

We can help arrange small events, for up to 50 people, on our land so visit our website for more information.

The 75th anniversary came during the first lockdown and covid restrictions, so people did their bit to celebrate and commemorate at home.

This time, it’s a great opportunity to get together with friends and neighbours.

Find out more about the history of VE Day, and Victory over Japan (VJ) Day, on the official commemorative website.

It’s got lots of ideas on how to get involved, as well as an interactive map where you can add your event.
