Bus changes coming next month

Changes are coming to the bus network in North Somerset next month to connect communities better and help improve reliability.

From Sunday 7 April there will be higher frequency services on some routes and timetable changes.

Commercial operators, with support from us, review the bus network every April and September to update services depending on usage levels and community needs.

This process formalises commercial bus operator decisions and allows us to react to any gaps in the network, where possible, with council-funded supported services.

It’s part of our commitment to improving sustainable and affordable bus travel within our region. Considerations include access to local services, connecting communities, and ensuring value for money.

Single bus fares are capped at £2 until December 2024, so there is plenty of time to explore our beautiful area in a more sustainable way.

New electric buses will also be on North Somerset roads from next year, after we successfully bid for £15m of new funding.

As a result of the review process, the 127 and 59 contracts will not be renewed from April but alternative services have been put in place.

We know these routes are used by some school children but there should be little disruption.

Young people who used the 59 will now be able to get the X4 bus. There is also a safe walking route to Sheepway Station Road where a return journey on the X5 has been provided to match school times.

All students who used the 127 transport entitlement will be transferred to home to school services.
