The way people apply for a postal vote has changed since the Election Act 2022.
Postal votes are now valid for a maximum of three years so if you applied before 30 January 2024, you must apply again by 31 January 2026 to keep it.
This change affects about 20,000 postal voters within North Somerset so we’re now starting to contact them directly.
If we have your email address, we’ll send an email with more information. It will be titled ‘North Somerset Council – postal vote renewal’ and be sent from electoral.services@n-somerset.gov.uk
If we don’t have your email address, or you don’t respond to the initial email, we’ll send a letter in December.
We’ve started this process early to allow plenty of time for people to reapply.
The next scheduled elections in North Somerset are due in May 2027, so it's important to get this done before then.
If you don’t reply, your postal vote will be cancelled.
Voters who no longer wish to have a postal vote can inform the council’s elections team by emailing their name, address and a request to have their postal vote application removed to electoral.services@n-somerset.gov.uk.

Anyone who is registered to vote can apply for a postal vote. Do it online on the government website.
