Citizens for Culture is a new approach to cultural engagement which will explore how creative opportunities can be inclusive and accessible for everyone.
Culture means much more than just the arts – it’s shaped by museums and festivals, music and more.
Invitations will be posted out later this month to 15,000 randomly selected households across the West of England, including North Somerset.
If you accept, you’ll help form a Citizens’ Assembly for Culture and shape decisions on key regional issues. The first session will be on Sunday 14 September.
The 52 people who take part will be asked the question - what would culture and creativity look like in the West of England if they were for everyone?
Following these discussions, a Cultural Plan will be published in November.
We see real value in this initiative - not just as a catalyst for culture but as a powerful driver for inward investment.
It is an exciting opportunity for a broad range of partners to come together with residents and cultural champions.
A vibrant, inclusive cultural landscape which truly reflects our region is an important part of what makes North Somerset a great place to live. We are pleased to work with Citizens for Culture to help achieve that.
We’re backing Citizens for Culture along with the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority, Bath and North East Somerset Council, Bristol City Council and South Gloucestershire Council.
The initiative is also supported by Arts Council England, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and Paul Hamlyn Foundation.
Workshops and local events will also be taking place. Sign up to the newsletter on the website to stay up-to-date.
