Summer is here and the diary is packed with community events, festivals, carnivals and more.

  • Pride is being celebrating in Weston-super-Mare throughout June with a series of events, activities, exhibitions and performances for all ages across multiple venues. Beautifully Proud, put together by a partnership of different local organisations and businesses, will shine a light on what Weston has to offer the community year-round and showcase the support available.   • Celebrate culture from across the world during a family friendly festival in Weston-super-Mare tomorrow (Saturday). Broadoak Academy is hosting a Festival of Culture on its playing fields from 11am to 4pm. Enjoy musical performances, dance, free running, food, interactive activities, arts and crafts and more. Free entry.
  • Enjoy an afternoon of fun, music, games, drinks at Yatton Schools Summer Carnival, tomorrow (Saturday) at Hangstones Pavillion. The afternoon starts with a procession through the village from 2.30pm, followed by fun in the field, with stalls and entertainment.
  • A joint Armed Forces and Emergency Services Day celebration day takes place in Weston-super-Mare on Saturday 22 June. The day starts at 10am with a parade of veterans and participants from the Grand Pier, heading towards the Beach Lawns for the opening ceremony, followed by more music and events throughout the day. Local emergency services will be hosting demonstrations and fun events.
  • Could you or someone you know benefit from technology around the home to keep you safe and independent? The home independence centre, based in the Motex Centre, Winterstoke Road, Weston-super-Mare, is hosting an open day on Thursday 27 June. Try out equipment, such as devices that offer medication reminders or recognises if you’ve had a fall. Visit from 11am to 3pm. Booked is recommended. Call 01275 888 804 or email edc@n-somerset.gov.uk
  • Celebrate the official start of summer with a Summer Solstice Silent Disco and enjoy your choice of music through individual headphones. Tickets cost £15 for the event at the Winter Gardens, in Weston-super-Mare, on Friday 28 June.
  • Celebrate South Asian culture with music, dance, food and more during a new festival to bring communities together. Visit the inaugural Weston Mela, from noon to 5pm on Saturday 29 June in Grove Park, Weston-super-Mare. The festival’s message is about welcoming and belonging, in a bid to tackle racism and division.
  • Experience bingo like never before when the popular Bingo Lingo returns to the Tropicana, in Weston-super-Mare, on Saturday 29 June.
  • Enjoy being transported back to the 80s and have fun while raising funds for a good cause during the 80s Charity Night at the Tropicana, in Weston-super-Mare, on Friday 5 July. Dance, sing and relive the magic of the 80s while raising funds for the Defib Weston-super-Mare Project, to raise funds for much-needed defibrillators in the town.
  • Head to Millennium Park in Nailsea on Saturday 6 July for live entertainment, games, a car boot sale, a BBQ and family fun during the Nailsea Carnival and Fayre. The procession starts at 1pm with the fayre from 12.30pm to 5pm.
  • Step back in time and hear hits from the noughties at a 2000s Party. The DJ will be spinning tunes from S Club, Beyonce, Coldplay, Britney Spears and more on Saturday 6 July, at the Tropicana, in Weston-super-Mare.
  • Volkswagen owners and enthusiasts can take part in a convoy in Weston-super-Mare during the popular charity event Cruise to the Prom, on Sunday 7 July. The cruise starts at Sanders Garden Centre on the A38. Arrive any time between 8.15am and 9.15am. The convoy will then head to the Beach Lawns, from 9.30am. Vehicle entry to the lawns is £8 in advance or £10 on the gate. Pedestrians can enter for free to enjoy the displays, traders, merchandise and activities. 
  • A community celebration of creativity and wellbeing is coming to Weston-super-Mare from Thursday 11 to Sunday 14 July. The fifth annual Arts + Health Festival features various workshops and events taking place on the beach and Weston General Hospital. The festival is co-produced by The Arts and Culture Programme, University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust, and Super Culture.
  • Three days of delicious food from around the world will be served up at Portishead Lake Grounds when the Somerset Street Food Festival returns from Friday 12 to Sunday 14 July. Try world cuisine from more than 25 of the UK’s top street food traders, while enjoying live entertainment and browsing market stalls. Free entry.
  • See skateboarders and BMX riders perform top tricks when the Nailsea Skate Fest and Activities Showcase returns to Millennium Park. Now in its 21st year, the festival runs from noon to 5pm on Saturday 13 July, and will also feature a children’s area, bouncy castle, BBQ and refreshments.
