Help choose the next Member of Parliament (MP) for your local area when the upcoming Parliamentary General Election takes place on Thursday 4 July.

You’ll be voting for your preferred candidate in the constituency where you live to represent you in Westminster.

Parliamentary constituency boundaries were reviewed and changed last year by the Boundary Commission for England and as a result, there are now three parliamentary constituencies covering the North Somerset area: Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset and part of the new Wells and Mendip Hills constituency.

We remain responsible for administering both North Somerset and Weston-super-Mare, while Somerset Council is overseeing Wells and Mendip Hills.

Some of our villages are now in the Wells and Mendip Hills constituency so if you live there and have a postal vote, this will be sent from Somerset Council and should be returned to them in good time.

The areas affected are:

  • Banwell and Winscombe ward (Banwell, Loxton, Winscombe, Sandford)
  • Blagdon and Churchill ward (Blagdon, Burrington, Churchill)
  • Congresbury and Puxton ward (Congresbury, Puxton)
  • Yatton ward (Kenn, Kingston Seymour, Yatton – Claverham ward, Yatton – Horsecastle ward, Yatton – North ward, Yatton – South ward).

This boundary change only affects voting in a parliamentary general election. We’re still the local authority for these areas.

Our ‘first past the post’ system means the candidate with the most votes becomes the MP for that area.
