Free employment and skills support is now available to jobseekers in North Somerset.

Opportunity North Somerset is an independent service offering help for people wanting to improve their employment prospects, access education and training, gain new skills, and move into work.

It’s available to anyone aged 16 and over who is not currently in paid work.

Everyone’s journey is different so personalised, practical support can be given. This might include support and advice about job searching, training or overcoming barriers to employment. People will also be referred to specialist partners when needed.

The free service, funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, is available until March next year.

To access it, you’ll need to complete a short self-assessment followed by a one-to-one session with a skills advisor who will offer impartial advice and referrals.

The service has already helped one 70-year-old return to work after retirement, and CV advice to a jobseeker with English as a second language.

A new weekly Employability Day has also launched at Weston-super-Mare Library, in the Town Hall, Walliscote Grove Road, to provide dedicated support to residents seeking employment.

No appointment is necessary, just drop-in from 9.30am to 12.30pm every Tuesday.

Support includes help with CV writing, job applications, general employability guidance, and training recommendations. The Employability Day will also connect attendees with local businesses looking to fill vacant positions.
