Building work has now started on a public toilet block in a Weston-super-Mare park.

As part of our improvement plans for Grove Park, we’ve got a specialist contractor to remove asbestos from within the 1960s building.

It is planned that the building will then be demolished later this year and relocated by March 2025, subject to planning permission, as it is no longer fit for purpose in its current state.

This is part of a bigger project to improve Grove Park, a well-loved town centre green space, which includes improvements to the entrance.

This work is part of series of improvements we’re making around the town after successfully bidding for £20m of government funding.

While this initial work is being carried out over the next couple of weeks, the park entrance at the junction of the High Street, Grove Road and Bristol Road Lower is temporarily closed for safety reasons.

Alternative entrances and businesses in the park, including Sprout Café, remain open as usual.

The nearest public toilets from Grove Park are in the Sovereign or on the seafront.

Find all public toilets across North Somerset on our website.

The Grove Park toilet block is managed by Weston-super-Mare Town Council and has been closed since December because of vandalism.

We’ve worked with the town council since then to find a solution and will complete this work as quickly as possible.

Anyone organising events in the park will continue to hire temporary toilets in the meantime.

You’ll be able to look at proposals for the new toilet block when the planning application is submitted and published on our website later this year.
