Packed calendar of summer events

The summer holidays will soon begin and there is a packed calendar of events for all the family to enjoy, from community events to comedy. 

  • Thrill seekers looking for fun can find it at Funland Theme Park, now open at the Tropicana, on Weston seafront, until Sunday 3 September 
  • Weston’s newest performance space, Front Room Theatre, in Dolphin Square, continues its packed calendar of events. Upcoming events include folk duo Suthering next Thursday (20 July); comedy show Tossbag by Becky Walsh on Saturday 22 July; multi-discipline show Brits Abroad: Banned on Tuesday 25 July; and children’s show Kid Carpet and The Noisy Garden Centre on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 July
  • Yatton Horticultural Society will be celebrating its 70th Summer Show on Saturday 22 July. Various stalls and plants for sale, in Yatton Village Hall and Glebeland Garden. 
  • Follow a free family scavenger hunt during a summer market and family fun day at Clevedon Community Centre and the Princes Hall, from 10am to 3pm on Saturday 22 July. You can also meet and hold reptiles from Bristol Reptile Encounters, including lizards, tortoises and snakes, and meet and greet characters including Peppa Pig and Chase, Skye and Marshall from Paw Patrol. 
  • Free music performances can be heard in Grove Park, in Weston-super-Mare, this summer. Sprout Café is hosting Garden Grooves in the bandstand, a series of interesting and diverse acts for everyone to enjoy. On Sunday 23 July, hear Brazillian group Theo Mizu from 3pm; on Sunday 30 July hear the Murmuration Choir at 3pm; see acoustic ensemble Opa Rosa from 6pm on Sunday 13 August; and enjoy high-energy group RSVP Bhangra from 6pm on Sunday 20 August.   • Enjoy a gallop through Greek mythology with goofy gods, hilarious heroines and daft deities, during a free outdoor show in Clevedon. Pandora’s Box presents The Last Baguette, from 2.30pm in Queens Square on Wednesday 26 July. Suitable for all ages, from 6 to 126. 
  • A colourful line-up of acts is coming to Weston-super-Mare’s vibrant landmark bandstand. The Super Wonder Shrine performance stage, in the High Street, is hosting a variety of artists performing for free. On Thursday 27 July see a line-up of spoken word super slammers in a friendly battle of words during Rhyme Against the Tide, from 7pm. On Sunday 30 July hear music, comedy and more during the From the Mud Summer Festival, from 2pm. 
  • Legendary DJ Gary Davies brings his 80s DJ set to the Tropicana, in Weston-super-Mare on Friday 28 July. Tickets from Skiddle
  • Sample some local beer and cider when the popular Weston Lions Real Ale and Cider Festival returns to the Beach Lawns, in Weston-super-Mare, from Friday 28 to Sunday 30 July. Entry tickets for the day available at the gate, with tokens to purchase drinks available to buy. 
  • Portishead Summer Show is a mixture of traditional flower and produce show, and country fair, with trade stalls, arena attractions and competition classes. Join the fun on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 July
  • Take part in a day of free crafts and activities to celebrate this year’s Festival of Archaeology. Drop into Weston Museum, in Burlington Street, Weston-super-Mare, any time from 10am to 3pm on Saturday 29 July
  • Animal shows, a petting zoo, food market, live music, craft stalls and fairground rides will all feature at Weston Dairy Festival, on the Beach Lawns from Thursday 3 to Sunday 6 August
  • Venues across Weston-super-Mare will fill with the sound of folk music when the free Sea Shanty Festival comes to town, from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 August. All events are free, no tickets required. Find out more online.
  • See colourful floral exhibits at Nailsea and District Horticultural Society Summer Show, on Saturday 5 August at Nailsea School in Mizzymead Road. 
  • Exceptional plant-based food and drink and sustainable products and services will be showcased during a Vegan Fair, from 10am-4pm on Sunday 6 August, at the Tropicana in Weston-super-Mare. Free entry.
  • Teams from across the UK will be battling it out on Weston beach when the Beach Rugby and Netball Festival returns from Friday 11 to Sunday 13 August. See teams enjoying a weekend of tag rugby on the sand. 
  • Find tasty treats from local food and drink producers during the popular eat:Portishead on Saturday 12 August
  • Original 2-Tone legend Neville Staple from The Specials is coming to the Tropicana, in Weston-super-Mare. See the multi-award winning musician on Saturday 12 August. Tickets from Skiddle.
  • A festival of fun, music and food for all the family returns to Nailsea on Saturday 26 August. Trendlewood Community Festival. Enjoy the fun from 11.30am to 6pm in the grounds of Golden Valley School.
