We have a 125-year lease on the new building, meaning the library service in the town has been secured for generations to come.
The previous Nailsea library location saw about 67,000 visitors a year so this new, accessible, energy-efficient and multi-functional space will be a welcoming hub for all the community.
If you’re not yet a library member, you can join online at LibrariesWest.
The move forms part of our library strategy, which outlines how we want to provide modern, accessible libraries where people can go to access and benefit from a variety of services.
This includes providing free access to computers, the internet and digital support, activities for families and people of all ages, and access to more than 2.5 million items through LibrariesWest.
Extended Access is being installed so registered users can borrow books and use computers and wi-fi outside of staffed library hours.
These improved digital facilities have been funded by an award of £27,595 from the Department for Levelling Up’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
The existing 50-year-old building in Somerset Square needs substantial investment, with estimated refurbishing costs of over £1m.
We’ve agreed to sell the building to Media Developments (Nailsea) Ltd, with the transaction due to complete this summer.
