The long-awaited walking and cycling route linking Clevedon and Weston-super-Mare’s piers will open as soon as work on both the route and outstanding legal agreements have been completed.

We had hoped that the 13-mile Pier to Pier Way would open this summer but unfortunately there have been some delays.

We’re sorry as we know a lot of people are looking forward to using it.

We’ve instructed our contractor to complete the final construction work.

It’s expected to take a few weeks for the contractor to mobilise and then a further six weeks for them to carry out the work.

Please don’t use the route in the meantime.

The outstanding legal agreements are now at their final stage and await sign-off by respective parties.

Developing the Pier to Pier Way supports our commitment to offering sustainable travel routes across the area, providing health benefits to residents by encouraging more cycling and walking, and reducing car travel.

The route will also improve access to our beautiful countryside and contribute to our commitment to be carbon neutral by 2030.

The Pier to Pier Way is funded by National Highways, Sustrans, the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, the Department for Transport, and North Somerset Council.

News of the opening date will be shared as soon as possible.

In the meantime, why not enjoy one of North Somerset’s other walking and cycling routes?

  • Brean Down Way – this Weston to Brean traffic-free route includes a new 20mph zone in Uphill. From here users can continue on road (or beach, with a mountain bike) to Brean Down
  • Strawberry Line – from Yatton railway station to Cheddar. Bike hire available from Strawberry Cycles
  • Festival Way – Nailsea to central Bristol
  • River Avon Trail (also known as the Pill Path) – a stone path running from Pill/Ham Green to Cumberland Basin. Most comfortable on a mountain bike.) would open this summer but unfortunately there have been some delays.
