Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) takes place on 27 January each year. It marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz and is a day to remember all those murdered in the holocaust, as well as those murdered in genocides across the world in years since. You can find out more on the HMD website.
It’s a chance to remember the millions who have been killed simply for who they were and to stand against bigotry, hatred and racism.
As part of Holocaust Memorial Day, we’re supporting a special event from 7.30pm on Saturday 27 January at the Tithe Barn, in Church Lane, Nailsea.
Hear guest speakers as well as music from Ukrainian vocal ensemble Kozachki, created by a group of women who were forced to leave their homes and relocate to Bristol because of the war with Russia.
The event is free but tickets must be booked in advance. Visit Eventbrite to book your space.
Households are also encouraged to light a candle and safely put it in their windows (you could also use an LED candle) at 8pm on Saturday 27 January, to remember those who were murdered for who they were.
From 8.05pm you’re then invited to upload your photos on social media using #HolocaustMemorialDay and #LightTheDarkness.
