Living at home in later life can be challenging but help is on hand to ensure people can continue to enjoy a safer environment for years ahead.

Huge advances in technology now mean that as well as providing sophisticated emergency alarms, help is also available with medication management, fall detection, voice control activation and movement monitoring.

Other practical adaptions are also possible to help with cooking, bathing and getting around the home safely.

Residents across North Somerset are being invited to discover practical ways to live more independently at the Independent Living Centre (ILC) which has opened its doors in Worle.

We are holding an open day at the newly relocated centre on Wednesday 28 January from 10am to 4pm, at Trenleigh Drive, BS22 6NF. The event offers local people the chance to explore the wide range of equipment, advice and support available to help with safe, comfortable and independent living.

The Independent Living Centre provides hands-on demonstrations and guidance on everyday solutions, including bathing and shower units, raised-level kitchens, stairlifts, riser recliner chairs, adjustable beds, mobility aids, an accessible set of weighing scales in a private space and Technology Enabled Care (TEC).

Visitors to the open day will also have the opportunity to meet representatives from a range of local services and suppliers, including stairlift specialists, AKW Bathrooms, Medequip and Medequip Connect. Our teams will be on hand too, including the Carers Service, Occupational Therapy and TEC teams, the Handyperson Service and Sirona Specialist Falls Service.

Light refreshments will be available throughout the day. Getting to the centre is easy by bus, train or car.

By bus

There is a Number 7 bus stop opposite Trenleigh Drive, with the centre being a 400m walk. The Number 7 bus can be caught from Worle Bus Terminus.

The centre aims to promote wellbeing by helping our residents to be as independent as possible, for as long as possible. The Independent Living Centre is a key part of delivering this vision, creating a space where people can access the information, guidance and support they or their family members need to lead fulfilling lives.

The Independent Living Centre is open Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 4pm, and visitors are welcome to drop in without an appointment. Free parking is available on site.
