There’s an annual charge to have garden waste collected from your kerbside, running from 1 April to 31 March the following year.
Current subscribers will be able to sign up again from early February so look out for the email.
The cost for this upcoming year is £65 for each garden waste bin, with a maximum of two garden waste bins per household.
If you can't have a bin at your property, you’ll be supplied with three garden waste bags for the same subscription cost of £65, with a maximum of six bags per household.
Discounts are available for the most financially vulnerable.
The subscription is reduced by 75 per cent – down to £16.25 per bin or three bags – if you:
- receive council tax support
- live in a student-only household
- receive the severe mental impairment discount, or
- have an armed forces exemption on your council tax.
This discount is automatically applied when you sign up.
Permits are sent through the post within 15 working days after signing up, with instructions included.
Crews will only collect bins and bags with permits attached.
If you choose not to sign up, garden waste can also be taken to one of our recycling centres, or compost the waste at home.
Use the online calendars to check when your garden, recycling and non-recyclable waste will be collected.
Still time to recycle real Christmas trees
There’s still time to recycle your real Christmas tree.
Put your real tree out on your first garden waste collection of the year and we will collect it for you.
Trees up to two metres tall can either be chopped up and put in your garden waste bin or left whole alongside your green garden waste bin, but please remove the pot and any decorations.
Alternatively, Noah’s Ark Farm Zoo is accepting Christmas trees until Sunday 26 January.
Trees should be left at the collection point in the main car park during zoo opening times (10.30am to 4pm).
Donated trees will either be chipped or used whole for animal enrichment within their habitat.
Simpler recycling for businesses
Businesses and organisations will soon need to sort their recycling – but help is available for smaller firms here in North Somerset.
The UK government wants to improve recycling rates and benefit the environment through its Simpler Recycling policy.
This aims to standardise the materials we all recycle, whether at home or work.
All businesses will be required to separate their recycling and food waste from their general waste, and separate collections will be needed for plastics, tins and cans, glass, paper and card, and food.
Larger businesses, schools and hospitals will need to do this from Monday 31 March this year.
Smaller firms (with fewer than 10 full-time employees) have until 31 March 2027.
We offer a commercial waste and recycling collection service, which can help your business meet the requirements of the new legislation.
A range of bin sizes are available, from a household-sized recycling box up to large 1,100-litre wheeled bins.
