Single bus fares are now capped at £3 across the country but this month First Bus announced that many passengers across the West of England will be paying less than this.
Hopping on the bus can be a great way to get about, as it means you can sit back and relax while someone else does the driving and you haven’t got to worry about finding a parking space.
It also lowers congestion on the roads and is a greener way to travel with much lower carbon emissions.
As part of our local Bus Service Improvement Plan, child single tickets remain £1 for travelling anywhere in the region.
Updated fares for January also include:
- single town fares for adults travelling within Clevedon, Nailsea, or Portishead will remain at £1.80
- adult single fares in the Bristol, Bath and Weston-super-Mare zones will increase from £2 to £2.40
- adult single fares in the rest of the West of England will increase from £2 to £2.40 for journeys of up to six miles and to £3 for longer journeys. This means travelling between Clevedon to Nailsea will cost £2.40 and travelling between Portishead to Clevedon will cost £3.
There are also changes to day and season ticket prices, and to student, young person and child fares. See the First Bus website for full details.

Feedback from older bus users needed to shape services
Older bus users are invited to share their stories of travelling by bus to help shape practical solutions to services.
The Ageing Well and Transport Forum is open for local people aged 65 and over who’d like practical solutions to help maintain independence and connection.
The forum has been set up as part of Improving Ageing in North Somerset, a five-year project funded by the National Lottery.
Transport was identified as a key issue in the State of Ageing in North Somerset report by Voluntary Action North Somerset.
The forum takes place from 11am-1pm on Monday 3 February, at Worle Community Centre, in Lawrence Road, Weston-super-Mare.
Guest speakers from First Bus will be attending to talk about accessibility, along with representatives from the council.
