Stunning illuminated displays, music and theatre are all coming to North Somerset over the coming weeks.
- Hear a friendly war of words at the eighth instalment of the Rhyme Against The Tide poetry slam. Spoken word super slammers will battle it out at Loves café, in West Street, Weston-super-Mare, next Thursday (26 January). Doors open 7pm. Age guidance 16+.
- Young musicians will be rewarded for their technical excellence and performance skills at Churchill Young Musician of the Year competition, on Monday 30 January, at St John the Baptist Church, Churchill. - Browse more than 40 stalls and pick up some treats at a mini indoor Clevedon Sunday Market, from 10am to 2pm on Sunday 5 February. This is a special indoor version of the usual outdoor event, taking place at Clevedon Community Centre and the Princes Hall.
- Find local meats, bread, cheese, veg and much more at Portishead Farmer’s Market, on Saturday 11 February at Waitrose Piazza.
- Skateboard and scooter fans of all abilities will be able to practice their tricks when a popular skatepark returns this February. Transend Skate Park is open from Monday 13 to Saturday 18 February, the YMCA Youth Centre, in Coleridge Road, Weston-super-Mare. Tickets available from Ticketsource.
- History Week is back at Weston Museum during the upcoming school holidays. Explore the past, with activity sessions exploring different eras on different days. Find out about ancient worlds, on Tuesday 14, the Roman Invasion on Wednesday 15, the Vikings on Thursday 16 and the Victorians on Friday 17 February. Charges apply for workshops, at £6 per child, but the museum itself is free to enter. Visit the website or pop into the Burlington Street building.
- A dazzling array of illuminated artworks and performance is lighting up a Weston park next month. Glow, a festival of light installations, interactive activities and sensory experiences, is back for its second year. The enchanting event, from Wednesday 15 to Saturday 18 February, is in Grove Park, with added attractions at other town centre locations including The Grand Pier and Princess Royal Square. Tickets for Grove Park are available from Ticketsource on a pay-what-you-decide basis, while the additional light installations around the town are free for everyone to enjoy.
- Watch Nailsea Musicals Youth perform Disney’s The Little Mermaid at the Backwell Playhouse, from Thursday 16 to Saturday 18 February at 7.30pm. There’s also a matinee performance on Saturday 18 February at 2.30pm. Tickets cost £12 (+ booking fee) and can be booked online.
