Free festive events will be taking place across North Somerset in the next week so keep your eyes peeled for any being advertised near you.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • A free festive paper trail is now on around Clevedon and you could be in with the chance of winning more than £100 of goodies. Grab a paper trail from Stationery House, N Joy Crafts or Sow and Arrow and then enjoy walking around the town centre to spot all 12 windows based on the 12 days of Christmas. Hand it back into Sow and Arrow by Christmas Eve to be in the chance of winning a hamper donated by local independent businesses.
  • Free tickets are still available for the Brainiac Astronaut Academy, running this weekend and next week at the Sovereign, in Weston-super-Mare. The year is 2037 and the Brainiac team is ready to explore new worlds. Help them build a rocket to get there.
  • Christmas carol singing will be taking place in communities across North Somerset. Check local advertising for your nearest or Facebook groups. In Hutton, community carol singing takes place next Wednesday (21 December), hosted by Toots Café at Hutton Football Club. Hear the brass band from 6pm and join in the carol singing from 6.30pm.
  • Banksy’s Dismaland pinwheel is now on show at Weston Museum. The museum is free to enter and while visiting, you can also see exceptional images of fascinating animal behaviour in the Wildlife Photography of the Year exhibition. This display is on loan from the Natural History Museum until Wednesday 8 February
  • Love Lego? Visit a library in North Somerset for one of our Lego clubs. Find details of this and other events in our libraries on our website.
  • go on a walk in the beautiful North Somerset countryside. Find walks we’ve featured in previous issues of Life magazine on our website.
  • The Weston Then and Now Facebook group has a post with ideas of things to do for free locally. Although not Christmas related, many of these ideas could be done over the upcoming school holidays.
  • Fancy running off those mince pies? If running isn’t your exercise of choice you could cheer those taking part in the annual Clevedon Boxing Day Run, from 11am on Monday 26 December. Junior and senior races available.

There is also plenty of music, theatre and comedy to be enjoyed in North Somerset next week.

Get into the Christmas spirt at one of these events:
