Would you like a better understanding of how your business could reduce its impact on the climate?

We can now offer free carbon reduction support to small and medium-sized businesses and charitable organisations in North Somerset.

The package, worth more than £700, includes:

  • carbon literacy training
  • a carbon baseline assessment report
  • a carbon reduction plan.

A limited number of free packages are available on a first come, first served basis. Apply early to secure your spot.

Find out more and fill in the expression of interest form on the North Somerset Council website. The deadline for applications is Friday 11 March.

Businesses and charities in North Somerset can also apply for a green business grant from West of England Combined Authority.

The North Somerset carbon support package will help you make a plan to reduce emissions, which the grant can then help get under way.

New 10-year plan to reduce waste and boost recycling

New plans for how we deal with recycling and waste in North Somerset have been agreed as part of our work towards making the area carbon neutral by 2030.

Over the past 15 years, household waste in our area has halved - from about 60,000 tonnes in 2005/6 to about 30,000 tonnes in 2019/20.

However, there is more we could all be doing and so a new recycling and waste strategy has been approved to tackle it.

Priorities include increasing rates of reuse, improving recycling services for flats, supporting composting, expanding the commercial waste service, and tackling littering and fly tipping to improve the look of streets and open spaces.
