A flagship electric vehicle (EV) rapid charging hub has officially opened in Portishead so drivers can charge their cars in under an hour.

The site, at Parish Wharf leisure centre, has a solar canopy, two rapid chargers of 50kW, four charging bays and can charge EVs in just 30 to 60 minutes.

By improving the EV infrastructure, we hope this will give residents more confidence to buy an electric vehicle and choose travel choices which are kinder to the environment.

We want North Somerset to be carbon neutral by 2030 so reducing emissions from travel will play a huge part in this.

You can see the rapid charging hub, which is part of the Revive network, in operation in a short film on our YouTube channel.

The location was chosen because it’s close to the leisure centre, shops and other local amenities, and is one of four planned for the region by the four local councils.

They are being delivered as part of the Go Ultra Low West project, with funding from the Office for Zero Emissions Vehicles.

This project will fund a total of 30 EV charging points throughout North Somerset.

A 22kW fast charger with two charging bays is already open in Sand Bay, at the Sand Road car park.

You can find out more about making the switch to an EV on the TravelWest website, as well as suggesting sites for on-street charging points.
