Free, independent employment and skills advice is available to jobseekers in North Somerset to help them in the world of work.

If you’re looking for your first job, want to improve your skills, change career or achieve a professional goal, support is available through one of our schemes thanks to dedicated funding from the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Help for mums to return to work

Mums in North Somerset can access free support to get back into work after a career break or to help kickstart their carevital services.er.

Bespoke training from the Women’s Work Lab helps women into meaningful employment through 1-2-1 career coaching, sessions with external partners such as Google and Smartworks, practical career support such as CV writing and a work placement with a respected local employer.

More than 30 women in North Somerset have already graduated from the scheme.

This year the programme will run twice in North Somerset, in April and September and take place during school hours.

Up to 30 free places are available to mums who are not currently working and have not been actively seeking work for at least two weeks. You do not need to be in receipt of benefits and can be of any age.

One-stop shop for advice

A scheme offering free and independent employment advice and signposting has re-launched in North Somerset.

Our Opportunity North Somerset service is a one-stop shop of advice, whether you’re just starting out, looking to up-skill, start a new business or more.

It’s available until March next year for anyone aged 18 and over living in North Somerset who is not in paid work, including refugees.

Free online resources are also available, covering employment support, career development and progression, youth employment and wellbeing, apprenticeships and work experience opportunities and more.

To access the support, first complete a short self-assessment form which will be reviewed by our skills advisers.

They’ll then be in touch for a more in-depth needs assessment, followed by a free, impartial referral service to one of Opportunity North Somerset’s partners.
