At a meeting earlier this month, Executive members agreed to hold a public consultation on our parking management strategy.
This includes proposals to consider introducing new parking charges in Portishead, Nailsea and Clevedon, covering council-owned car parks and some areas of on-street parking.
As well as the new charges, proposals set out plans for an annual short-stay parking permit that would allow residents to park for two-hours for free.
The consultation will help us understand how you park now and any issues we need to think about.
It will also seek your views on details such as charge locations, pricing, hours of operation and terms of the short-stay parking permits.
New charges would enable us to improve the operation and maintenance of our car parks as well as manage traffic and congestion by introducing on-street parking restrictions at busy locations.
It is hoped the short-stay permits will help residents who rely on their cars for journeys around North Somerset, while increasing the number of potential customers for businesses as people come and go throughout the day.
It is also hoped that we can encourage more people to make journeys sustainably, travelling on foot or by bike for the benefit of their health and the environment or by using public transport where they can.
We understand that people will have different views on these proposals, whether they are residents, visitors, businesses or members of other community groups, so we hope to hear from as many of you as possible when the consultation opens.
Consultation is expected to open in March and we will share lots of ways for you to get involved.
