We’ve updated our Local Flood Risk Management Strategy and want your views on it.
The strategy sets out our objectives and actions for the next 10 years, focusing on how communities can be more resilient to both groundwater and surface water flooding, sometimes known as flash flooding.
Parts of the strategy also cover broader flood risks such as flooding from the sea and large rivers.
Thanks to external funding, we’ve already invested £3.2m in large schemes to reduce surface water flood risk in Wrington, and Summer Lane, Weston-super-Mare.
We also spend more than £1m each year to maintain road drainage and flood defences.
New techniques such as natural flood management are being used - making use of features in the landscape, such as tree planting, ponds and wetlands, to slow the flow of water.
We're also increasing the flood resilience of buildings by adding flood doors, so if there is a flood, the water enters more slowly.
By getting involved in this consultation and giving us your views, you’ll help to shape the updated strategy, which will guide future investment and help North Somerset become more flood resilient.
