Now is the time to renew your garden waste subscription if you’d like it to be collected from the kerbside for another year. Over 4,000 households have already subscribed!

The current subscription expires on Monday 31 March so you’ll have to subscribe if you’d like to still have it collected until the end of March next year.

The easiest way to do this is on our website.

If you know someone who can’t renew online, we’re asking that friends or relatives help them. Or they can use computers for free in any of our libraries

Those who don’t renew will automatically stop receiving collections after Monday 31 March.

New customer? You can sign up at any point between now and December, but the earlier you join, the more collections you’ll get.

It costs £70 for each garden waste bin, with a maximum of two per household. Those unable to have garden waste bins can pay the same £70 for three garden waste sacks. Households can have a maximum of six sacks.

The annual charge for the service has increased this year to cover the rising cost to deliver collections.

Once you have subscribed, you should receive your permit through the post within 15 working days.

Subscriptions for the most financially vulnerable households are subsidised. This is automatically applied at sign-up or renewal.

The new garden waste subscription service runs from Monday 1 April 2026 to Monday 31 March 2027.

Check all your waste and recycling collection dates on our website.

 Become a Master Composter!

A local project supporting residents to cut waste and boost soil health is looking for new volunteers.

The North Somerset Master Composters programme, funded by us and run by national charity Garden Organic, trains residents to share composting knowledge within their communities.

Since launching four years ago, volunteers have spoken with more than 3,000 people, helping many households start making their own compost at home.

The role is flexible and open to everyone. Volunteers can chat to residents at events, give talks or workshops, or simply share tips with neighbours. Many say the best part is helping others have those lightbulb moments—whether solving a composting issue or discovering the tiny creatures that make compost work.

Garden Organic provides full training and ongoing support to help volunteers feel confident and connected with others who share their interest in gardening, sustainability and soil health.

Applications are open until Saturday 28 February for the next volunteer training day, taking place at Yeo Valley Organic Gardens on Saturday 14 March.

If you’d like to help more people in North Somerset give composting a try, visit www.gardenorganic.org.uk/nsmc. For more information, contact Kate Eastment at keastment@gardenorganic.org.uk or on 07725 990708.
