We’re working with Clevedon, Nailsea, Portishead and Weston-super-Mare Town Councils on ways to manage some services, including parks and open spaces and keeping our towns clean.
The first phase of work includes increased joint working on community safety, play areas and tackling litter.
Progress is also being made in our talks with parish councils on potential opportunities for working together.
Any service run by a town or parish council in future will be paid for by residents within those communities.
There won’t be a situation where people pay twice for the same services.
We must make tough decisions to protect vital services as best we can, while continuing to deliver low cost, good quality services for residents.
We’re facing considerable financial challenges due to increasing demand and costs for services, particularly in children and adult services.
Savings plans of more than £44m need to be delivered across the next three years, with £20m next year alone.
However, this programme is not just about saving money - it’s also about delivering services in a better way, with communities having more influence over how things are done in their area.
Working with town and parish councils means we can build stronger communities and better services in the long-term.
It will ensure that decisions are made by the communities affected by them, that services are delivered locally where possible, are cost effective, and that valued services and facilities can continue to be delivered.
