Make the most of the Christmas holidays with lots of festive fun at events in our area.
- Watch a hilarious and tender take on a Christmas classic as Living Spit performs A Christmas Carol, now on at the Theatre Shop in Clevedon. The show promises a feast of festive foolery. Various dates, until Saturday 30 December.
- Theatre fun for adults and families can be seen this month. Raise a glass to rowdiness and rebellion with an adult musical comedy, The Shaggy Dog Tale. It’s based on local myth and legend, with stories of piracy, smuggling and communities sticking two fingers up at the powers that be. Various dates from today (Friday) until Sunday 30 December. For younger members of the family, there is The Snow Baby, presented by Soap Soup Theatre, a magical children’s theatre show with beautiful puppetry, imaginative storytelling and music, exploring family, love and loss. - Artisan makers will be showcasing their wares at a special Christmas market tomorrow (Saturday). Pick up a unique present at the event, which is on from 6pm-9pm in The Stable, in Wadham Street, Weston-super-Mare.
- Prepare to be enchanted as the iconic Mr Punch works with Santa, elves and other festive characters to save Christmas from the evil Grinch. Watch the colourful cast of puppets during this free show for all ages at Weston Museum, in Burlington Street. The Grinch and Mr Punch shows can be seen at 11am and 1pm on Thursday 21, Friday 22 and Saturday 23 December. No need to book, just turn up.
- A special show is coming to Loves Café, in West Street, Weston-super-Mare, on Friday 29 December. Mark Chadwick, the voice of The Levellers, performs an acoustic set during this annual Christmas event.
- Run off those Christmas puds during the annual Boxing Day race in Clevedon. Entries close on Tuesday (19 December). Junior and Senior races. Some brave swimmers will also be going for their annual New Year’s Day dip, from 11am at Clevedon Marine Lake. Spectators are very welcome to come along and watch dippers take the plunge. A bucket collection for Marlens will be held.
